Why Choose Roughwood Primary School?
We are passionate about creating a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where every child can flourish. From the moment your child steps into our Reception class, our focus is on fostering curiosity and developing well-rounded individuals who are ready for their next steps in life.
At Roughwood, we prioritize both academic and personal growth through:
A strong ethos centered on positive values and community involvement.
A commitment to Wellbeing, incorporating modern strategies like My Happy Mind sessions, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants), and dedicated sensory resources to support every child’s emotional needs.
A stimulating environment that encourages exploration and discovery in our indoor and outdoor learning areas.
A Strong Start in the Early Years
Our Reception curriculum is built upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, designed to give children the best possible start to their schooling. We balance structured teaching with continuous provision, ensuring that learning is meaningful, engaging, and personalized.
Beyond the core subjects, our curriculum is enriched by:
Holistic Development: We focus on key areas such as Personal Development, social skills, and the foundational knowledge needed for Key Stage 1.
The LEAF @ Roughwood: Our dedicated learning provision helps support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring all children receive the tailored support they need to succeed.
Enrichment: We offer a wide range of learning experiences, from engaging educational visits to exciting residentials later on, bringing the curriculum to life for all pupils.
Comprehensive Wrap-Around Care
We understand the needs of busy, working families, which is why we offer comprehensive and reliable wrap-around care right here on site.
Our safe and engaging extended day runs from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, providing peace of mind and continuity for your child. Pupils can enjoy a variety of activities and clubs both before and after school hours, extending the learning and fun in a familiar environment. More Information

Positive Reinforcement: We recognise and reward children who consistently demonstrate our values.
