2-Year-Olds (I wonder who could help me? &; I wonder what happens in the dark?)
The children will settle into their school environment by building strong relationships with their key workers and practice independence, such as putting on their coats and pouring their own drinks. They will explore road safety through play using small world vehicles, bikes, and scooters. As the term moves into the autumn and winter months, the children will learn about different people who help us—like firefighters and police officers—and explore what happens at night by sharing stories like Owl Babies and singing number rhymes up to 3. They will also celebrate Diwali and Christmas and express themselves creatively with paint and chunky mark-making tools.

The children will explore the school grounds on weekly welly walks to observe seasonal changes and learn to name different weather patterns. They will enjoy a visit from Little City to explore different occupations, and role-play as road safety officers by learning to cross the street safely. Later in the term, they will build a cosy outdoor nest for Owl Babies, recreate bright fireworks in the night sky using natural materials to celebrate Diwali, and share festive songs for Christmas. In Maths, they will practice sorting by colour, shape, and size, subitise numbers 1 and 2, and learn to extend simple repeating patterns.

The children will explore their personal identity, create family trees, and discover how community helpers support us in our daily lives. On their forest school welly walks, they will use their senses to explore autumn leaves and winter frost, drawing pictures of their outdoor discoveries. They will dive into the nighttime world of nocturnal animals with books like Night Monkey, Day Monkey, taste traditional foods for Diwali, and prepare a spectacular Christmas nativity performance. In Maths, the children will practice sorting, comparing, and subitising, master counting to 5 and beyond, and explore circles, triangles, and four-sided shapes.

Years 1 & 2 Around the World (What makes our world wonderful?)
The children will go on a global geographical adventure, mapping the seven continents and oceans and stamping their “continent passports” as they explore different climates. They will write informative travel logs, space diaries, and explanations inspired by texts such as Here We Are and Atlas of Adventures. In Science, they will track seasonal changes and day lengths, and build shoebox habitats to explore animal life cycles. In Computing, the children will learn to program Beebot robots on around-the-world story mats and design creative visual posters.

Year 3 Victorians (What have the Victorians done for us?)
The children will immerse themselves in history through a dedicated Victorian Experience Day to compare their lives today to the industrial past. They will research the lives of working children, map industrial growth, and write letters to Queen Victoria calling for the closure of workhouses. In Art and DT, they will contrast the works of William Morris and L.S. Lowry, and use appliqué sewing to design their own Victorian Christmas tree decorations. In Science, the children will explore the properties of light and shadows, and research the inventions of Thomas Edison.

Year 4 Extreme Earth (What Makes Nature So Powerful?)
The children will investigate the physical geography of the planet, exploring plate tectonics, mountain formation, and locating the world’s most hazardous volcanoes and earthquakes along the Ring of Fire. In Science, they will explore states of matter through the water cycle, investigate the pitch and volume of thunder, and explore how static electricity creates lightning. In DT, the children will research, design, and construct stable, tabletop disaster exhibition models featuring sliding and pop-up mechanisms. In Computing, they will use Scratch to apply variables and code their own interactive volcano games.

Year 5 Space (Are we alone in the universe?)
The children will investigate astronomy and our place in the cosmos, exploring the geocentric and heliocentric solar system models of Copernicus and Galileo. In Science, they will conduct hands-on experiments to measure gravity, friction, and air resistance using falling parachutes. In History, they will construct a timeline of the historic Space Race and study the inspiring life of NASA’s “Hidden Figures”. In DT, children will combine their scientific knowledge of mechanisms and electronic circuits to construct motorised space buggies.

Year 6 Coasts (How has the coastline shaped Britain?)
The children will investigate physical and human geography during an exciting residential fieldwork trip to the coast, where they will record beach profiles using inclinometers and map land-use changes over time. In Literacy, they will write balanced arguments regarding coastal tourism and compile travel blogs based on The Giant’s Necklace. In Computing, the children will learn to program coastal wave patterns using Python nested loops and explore the real-world applications and ethics of Artificial Intelligence. In Science, they will explore the Linnaean system to classify organisms, plants, and microorganisms
