As part of their learning in science and mathematics, our Year 5 children became meteorologists for the day by using data loggers to collect their own temperature data from around the school grounds.
The children visited a variety of locations at different points throughout the day, carefully recording how temperatures changed over time and in different environments. They explored how factors such as sunlight, shade and shelter can affect temperature readings.
Using the data they collected themselves, the children are now ready to organise their findings and present them in the form of line graphs, helping them to identify patterns, trends and changes over time.
This hands-on investigation allowed the children to develop their scientific enquiry skills while also strengthening their understanding of data handling and graphing in mathematics. We look forward to seeing the conclusions they draw from their results!
