Year 6 enjoyed an exciting Science investigation this afternoon exploring the question: What effect does physical activity have on our heart rate?
We began by writing our own hypotheses before learning how to use data loggers and heart monitors. First, we found our pulse and measured our resting heart rate. We then headed outside to complete a fitness circuit before immediately measuring our pulse again and recording our recovery rate two minutes later.
The children discovered that our hearts pump blood around the body much faster during exercise because our muscles need more oxygen and energy. We also noticed how this affects our breathing rate too!
It was a fantastic hands-on session with lots of excellent scientific thinking, teamwork and data collection. Well done, Year 6!
