Year 5 Science โ€“ Living Things and Their Habitats ๐Ÿธ

This half term, Year 5 have begun their exciting science topic, Living Things and Their Habitats, with a special focus on life cycles.

To launch our learning, the children visited the school pond and took part in pond dipping. This hands-on experience gave them the opportunity to explore a real habitat and observe living things in their natural environment. The highlight of the visit was discovering frog spawn and tadpoles, which linked perfectly to our new learning about the life cycle of a frog.

The children were fascinated to see the early stages of the frog life cycle first-hand. They discussed how frog spawn develops into tadpoles, then froglets, before becoming adult frogs. Over the coming weeks, we will continue to observe changes over time and compare the life cycles of different living things.

This memorable start to the unit has already inspired lots of scientific questioning, careful observation and curiosity about how animals grow and change.
