Our Year 5 children combined creativity with mathematics as they designed and created their very own survival maps, applying their knowledge of coordinates in an exciting and practical way.
Using their understanding of plotting and reading coordinates, the children carefully planned challenge maps filled with obstacles, checkpoints and hidden locations. They then swapped maps with a partner and put their coordinate skills to the test by following the given coordinates to navigate the route successfully.
This engaging activity encouraged the children to apply their learning in a meaningful context while developing their problem-solving, communication and spatial reasoning skills.
The big question was: Could their partner find the correct route using only their knowledge and application of coordinates? Thankfully, with some careful plotting and mathematical thinking, many of our Year 5 explorers rose to the challenge!
