Year 5 Make a Protein Bar For their Survival Bag

Year 5 have been designing a protein bar as part of their survival bag based on our topic. Children first designed a highly nutritious bar before sending a group of children to purchase out ingredients from the shops.

Year 5 then stepped into the roles of food scientists to develop and make their own nut-free protein bars. The children worked carefully to combine oats and protein powder, using honey as a natural sweetener and binder. To create the ultimate flavor balance, they added chocolate chips for sweetness, cinnamon for warmth, and a pinch of salt to bring it all together. It was a fantastic way to explore the principles of nutrition and food safety while ensuring the kitchen remained a safe, inclusive environment for everyone!
