Year 3 Sewing – Mastering The Running Stitch

At Roughwood, our Year 3 children have been developing their sewing skills and have been busy learning how to thread a needle with the needles eye, and once mastered.., complete a running stitch.

The children have been practising to carefully thread their needles, securing their thread and then using small, neat stitches to sew along their fabric. It has been wonderful to see their concentration, patience and perseverance as they develop this new skill.

During our two sewing sessions, this has required fine-motor control and coordination.

Children have shown fantastic determination—even when their threads became tangled and didn’t quite go to plan!

We are so proud of how carefully the children have worked and how willing they have been to keep practising.

Well done, Year 3! We can’t wait to see how you get on learning other stitches in design and technology in our next lessons 🌟
