Exploring dental health using our 5 senses

This week in the LEAF, we have been exploring all things dental through hands-on, play-based learning! Our focus was inspired by the story “Maisy Goes to the Dentist.”

For many of our children, toothbrushing and dental visits can bring big sensory experiences. To help everyone feel safe, confident, and curious, we broke down dental routines into gentle, step-by-step sensory activities using our 5 Senses:

  • 👂 Hear: Listening to the gentle buzzing sound of an electric toothbrush.
  • 👀 See: Using mirrors to look inside our mouths and spot our teeth.
  • ✋ Touch: Feeling the soft bristles of a toothbrush with our fingers.
  • 👅 Taste: Having a tiny taste of minty toothpaste.
  • 👃 Smell: Exploring the fresh, clean scent of mint.
