Year 6 explored an old Ordnance Survey map of Seahouses from 1900 and compared it with a map of the area today.
The children carefully examined the maps and evaluated how Seahouses has changed over time. We discovered that the townβs industry was once largely based around its maritime activities, including fishing and the harbour, whereas today it is much more focused on tourism. π
We discussed how maps can provide valuable evidence about the past. By looking at features such as harbours, boats, buildings, roads and tourist attractions, we were able to make deductions about how people lived and worked in Seahouses in 1900 compared with today.
This was a fantastic opportunity to develop our historical enquiry skills and understand how places change over time. Wonderful learning, Y6! πΊοΈβποΈ
