Year 5 enjoyed an exciting outdoor maths lesson this week, bringing their learning to life in the fresh air! The children used chalk to draw large rectangles on the playground, helping them to visualise and calculate the perimeter of different shapes.
Working with challenge cards, the pupils were set a range of problems to solve. These included creating rectangles with a perimeter that is a prime number, a multiple of a given number, or even a decimal value. This encouraged them to think carefully about the lengths of each side and how they combine to make the total perimeter.
The children worked collaboratively, discussing ideas and testing different possibilities, using the space around them to experiment and refine their answers. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and problem-solving skills in action.
A brilliant way to combine maths, creativity and the outdoors—well done, Year 5!
