Y5: RE – Sacred vs Special Places “What makes a place special?”

Children in Year 5 have started their new RE unit by learning about the difference between special places and sacred places.

They discovered that special places are important to individuals. These places can make people feel calm, happy or excited because of the memories they hold. In contrast, sacred places are shared by communities and are often linked to religion. People visit sacred places to feel close to a holy figure, to reflect and to pray.

The children then explored examples of both special and sacred places in our local area. They thought about places that are meaningful for different people, including both religious and non-religious communities.

To finish their learning, the children created their own artwork to show the difference between a special place and a sacred place. Their work clearly showed their understanding and creativity.
