In Chestnuts, we’ve been learning how to add two numbers together in a fun, practical way. We started by using Numberblocks to show different numbers up to 10, which helped us see what each number looks like. Then we used tens frames and counters to show the numbers, and counted them all together to find the total.
After that, we moved on to using Numicon to represent the numbers. We worked with a partner and used two different colours of counters—yellow for one number and red for the other—on a tens frame. We counted all the counters to see how many there were altogether.
We really enjoyed working together and using the different resources to help us understand how adding works.
