The children in year 3 children explored different metaphors used to describe God through drama and role play.
They considered the meaning behind phrases such as ‘I am the light of the world’, thinking about what light represents, such as hope, guidance, goodness and safety.
Working collaboratively, the children used facial expressions, body movements, freeze frames and short improvised scenes to represent these ideas without simply explaining them. They discussed how a metaphor can communicate an idea about God in a creative and meaningful way, even though it is not meant to be taken literally.
Through drama, the children were encouraged to express their own interpretations and listen respectfully to the ideas of others. This supported them in developing their understanding of Christian beliefs while also building confidence, communication, creativity and collaborative skills.
