In this Chestnuts lesson, we used cubes and a tens frame to practise taking away. We filled the tens frame to make big numbers like 10, then took some cubes away to see what was left. We tried number sentences like 9 − 5, 10 − 4 and 6 − 3. Moving the cubes helped us see what was happening and made it easier to work out the answers. It was a fun, hands-on way to learn subtraction and helped us feel more confident with taking away numbers.
