Y6 Science – Which material would be the best to use for a blackout? πŸ”¦πŸ”

Year 6 have completed an investigation this week where we have considered which material would be the best to use during a WW2 blackout. As a class, we chose different materials we could source around school that we thought would stand as good blackout material and generated a hypothesis.

We put our predictions to the best by using data loggers to record the amount of light that was let through each materials, measured in lumens.

We concluded that the best material to use would be black paper, due to black absorbing all colours and as a result allowed the lowest amount of light to pass through. To ensure a fair test, we carried out each test of material 3 times and calculated the mean. Each group had the same findings!
