We have been learning about rationing during World War 2, exploring how families coped with limited supplies. We have examined real ration books and learnt about real wartime recipes, discussing the restrictions on coupons and how this affected everyday life.
The class considered challenges families faced in making their rations last and the tough choices they had to make. To bring their learning to life, we took part in a role-play drama activity, acting as shopkeepers and families trading coupons for their weekly essentials, using Maths to help us calculate our allowance.
This hands-on experience helped us develop a deeper understanding of the struggles of wartime and the importance of resourcefulness during difficult times.
