Shadow investigation in Year 6

Year 6 explored how shadows are formed and investigated how the position of the sun affects their size and direction. Using the pattern seeking line of enquiry, we traced our shadows with chalk in the morning and again at noon, noticing how they became shorter as the sun moved higher in the sky and how they were elongated during the morning.

Our science ambassadors then helped us record the length of each shadow. Later this week, we are going to analyse this data and make our conclusion and compare this to our prediction.

A great hands-on way to connect science with real-world observations!
