Class 2 visit Conisbrough Castle

Year 2 traded their classroom desks for the ancient limestone walls of Conisbrough Castle this week! This adventure was the highlight of our “Towers, Tunnels, and Turrets” topic, allowing our young historians to see how terms like barbican, baileys and keeps look in the real world.

The children were mesmerized by the magnificent circular keep—one of the finest in Europe. We braved the spiral staircases to reach the very top, peeking through narrow arrow slits and imagining what it was like to stand guard over the South Yorkshire countryside centuries ago.

The day’s highlight was an immersive workshop where history truly came alive. The children didn’t just learn about the past; they lived it by stepping into the roles that kept a castle running. They dressed up as lords, ladies, stewards, farmers and many more..

Our explorers returned to school with muddied boots and minds full of inspiration. They now have a wealth of firsthand experience to pour into their upcoming creative writing and model-building projects. A huge well done to Year 2 for their exemplary behavior and curiosity!
