Admission Arrangements
Welcome to the Roughwood Primary School Admissions Section
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. We’ve designed this section to be a clear guide through our admission process for all age groups.
Undecided about choosing your child’s first school? Visit our Join Our Reception page to see what Roughwood can offer.
Applying for Our Nursery (Little Acorns & Acorns)
- Little Acorns is our provision for 2-year-olds.
- Acorns is our Nursery for 3 and 4-year-olds (also known as F1).
How to Apply:
- Get an Application Form: Simply pop into the school office to pick one up. We’re here to help if you have any questions.
- Complete the Form: Fill out the form carefully and completely.
- Submit the Form & Birth Certificate: Return the completed form to the school office. Please remember to include a copy of your child’s birth certificate. We can make a copy for you at the office if needed.
When Your Child Can Start:
Your child will be admitted to our 2s Provision or Acorns (Nursery) the term after their birthday. For example, if your child turns 3 in November, they would be eligible to start in the January term.
Important Note: The application process for our Nursery is managed directly by Roughwood Primary School.
Applying for a Place at Roughwood Primary School
This section is for two types of applications:
Reception (Starting School for the First Time): For children who are starting school in Reception at the beginning of the school year, they turn five. Visit our Join Our Reception page for more information on why to choose Roughwood for your child.
In-Year Admissions (Transferring Schools): For children of any age who are already at another school and want to transfer to Roughwood Primary during the school year.
Important Information for All Applicants
No Automatic Transfer from Nursery: Please note that having a place in our Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. You must submit a separate application for your child to join Reception.
How to Apply (Step-by-Step)
All applications for Reception and in-year transfers are managed by Rotherham Council, not by the school.
- Visit the Rotherham Council Website: Go to the official Rotherham Council School Admissions website.
- Complete an Online Application: Follow the instructions on their website to fill out and submit the online application form.
- Wait for the Council’s Decision: The Rotherham Local Authority will contact you directly to inform you if your child has been offered a place at our school. We are unable to provide updates on your application.
Admissions Authority: The Rotherham School Admissions Team is the admissions authority for these applications.
Admissions policy can be found on our policies page.
