Head Teacher Welcome
Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Roughwood Primary School, serving the community of Kimberworth Park, Rotherham, a place where we nurture a lifelong “love of learning.” We believe that “it’s in our hands to make every aspiration a reality” for each and every child.
At Roughwood, we are deeply passionate about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are proud to offer the LEAF@Roughwood, our on-site provision for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1) pupils with neurological differences requiring bespoke support.
We hold high expectations and ambition for all our pupils, fostering high achievement through a combination of academic excellence and robust social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support. Our comprehensive SEMH provision includes Kit Bag, ELSA, and therapeutic interventions, ensuring every child feels safe, secure, and empowered to express themselves.
We understand that mental health is paramount. Children who feel safe and secure thrive, and at Roughwood, we prioritise creating a nurturing environment where they can learn and grow without fear.
Our dedicated and talented team is committed to providing your children with the very best education possible. We are deeply invested in the success of our pupils and the wider Roughwood community.
Our school is built on the foundation of British Values, emphasizing respect and empathy. We cultivate teamwork, creativity, responsibility, and strong self-esteem. Through our Restorative Practice approach, we teach children to care for one another, fostering positive relationships and collaborative learning.
Roughwood Primary School is continually evolving and improving. Our website showcases the rich and varied experiences we offer, reflecting our belief that every day is special and that no opportunity for excellence should be missed.
We believe in a strong partnership between school and home. You, as parents and carers, are your child’s first and most important educators. We value your support with home learning and, crucially, in helping your child develop a love of reading. Thank you for your commitment.
We also encourage you to make use of the online learning platforms, such as Sumdog, that your child has access to. Please take time to browse our galleries, blogs, and even children-made films. Don’t forget to follow our residential blogs and connect with us on Twitter – you won’t be disappointed! We are confident you will be impressed by the phenomenal experiences our children enjoy.
