ELSA & Kitbag
Kitbag
What is Kitbag?
Kitbag is a multi-sensory resource that helps children and young people discover ways to talk about their feelings and share their thoughts in a safe place. It works well in pairs and small groups. Kitbag helps school and social work staff, youth workers, parents and foster carers to reach out, listen and understand what children and young people are feeling. It creates a simple way to check in with them.
Over time, Kitbag can help them grow empathy for others. It provides a natural way to deepen relationships, grow trust and form friendships.
How can it help my child?
At Roughwood, the Kitbag could be used to help children develop their social-emotional skills, manage their emotions, and build relationships with their peers and teachers. Kitbag is currently run by trained staff. If you feel your child could benefit from Kitbag, please speak with your child’s teacher.
Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)
What is ELSA?
At Roughwood, we are fortunate to have dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) as part of our team. ELSAs are trained teaching assistants who provide emotional support to children experiencing a wide range of emotional or social difficulties.
Our ELSAs work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, focusing on developing key emotional skills such as:
Understanding and managing emotions.
Developing social skills.
Building self-esteem and confidence.
Managing anxiety or anger.
Coping with loss or bereavement.
ELSA interventions are tailored to the individual needs of each child, providing a safe and nurturing space for them to explore their feelings and develop strategies to cope with life’s challenges. This support is a valuable component of our commitment to the holistic well-being of our pupils.
