Year 5 have been busy scientists this week, investigating irreversible changes through a fun and exciting experiment!
To explore this concept, the children used bicarbonate of soda mixed with both white vinegar and malt vinegar. They carefully observed what happened when the substances were combined, noticing the fizzing reaction and the formation of a gas—something that could not be undone, making it an irreversible change.
Throughout the lesson, pupils worked scientifically by making predictions, carrying out fair tests, and recording their observations. They also compared the reactions between white vinegar and malt vinegar, discussing any similarities and differences they noticed.
It was a fantastic hands-on lesson that brought science to life and helped deepen understanding of how materials can change in ways that cannot be reversed.
Well done, Year 5—future scientists in the making! 🌟
