Year 5 Attend a Tudor Banquet at Gainsborough Old Hall

Year 5 recently enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Gainsborough Old Hall, where they took part in a fascinating Tudor Banquet Workshop. The visit brought their history learning to life as pupils stepped back over 500 years to experience what life was like during the Tudor period.

When we arrived at the magnificent medieval manor house, one of the best-preserved timber-framed buildings in England, the children were immediately struck by its size and character. Walking through the historic rooms and corridors helped them imagine what it must have been like to live there during Tudor times.

During the workshop, pupils learned all about the traditions and customs of a Tudor feast. They discovered how banquets were used to impress important guests and show wealth and power. The children explored the types of food eaten during the Tudor period, table manners expected at the time, and the roles of servants who helped run these grand occasions.

One of the highlights of the day was taking part in a Tudor-style banquet. The children practised traditional greetings, table etiquette and even tried some activities that Tudor guests might have enjoyed during a feast. Laughter filled the hall as pupils embraced the roles and imagined themselves as Tudor nobles and servants.

The experience helped the children deepen their understanding of the Tudor era in a fun and engaging way. They asked thoughtful questions, demonstrated excellent behaviour, and represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit.

We are incredibly proud of Year 5 for their enthusiasm and curiosity during the trip. A big thank you to the staff at Gainsborough Old Hall for delivering such an informative and enjoyable workshop, and to the adults who supported the visit.

It was a wonderful day of history brought to life, and one that Year 5 will remember for a long time!
