In Year 6, we conducted a science investigation to explore which materials – felt, cardboard, curtain and paper – would be most suitable for use in the blackout during World War II.
Our goal was to determine how well each material blocked light, which was crucial for keeping homes dark during air raids.
To gather accurate data, we used data loggers to measure the amount of light that passed through each material when it was pinned up to a window. By comparing the results, we were able to identify which material would have been the most effective in maintaining the blackout conditions and helping to keep people safe during that time.
Our next job is to analyse our data and check whether our hypothesis about which materials would be best suited was correct!
