This week, Year 2 had a fantastic time learning how to saw wooden dowel with brilliant help from our Year 6 friends! Together, we explored real woodworking tools, including a saw, bench hook and sandpaper, learning how each one helps us cut and smooth wood safely.
The Year 6 helpers showed wonderful leadership, demonstrating how to hold the dowel steady, how to saw with control and how to finish the edges using sandpaper. Year 2 listened carefully, worked sensibly and showed great determination as they practised their new skills.
Everyone was very proud of their finished pieces, and it was lovely to see the teamwork, encouragement and excitement throughout the session. Next we are going to join the wood to make the frames of our hedgehog houses.
Well done to all our young woodworkers it was a fantastic effort from both classes!
