Shape hunt

This week in maths, we have been focusing on shapes with four sides. We always begin our maths sessions with a number rhyme, and this week’s rhyme was “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, once I caught a fish alive.” This helped us warm up and practise our counting skills.

The children then worked on matching different shapes using velcro before moving on to making their own shapes using lollipop sticks. This hands-on activity helped them explore and talk about the properties of each shape, such as the number of sides and corners.

Next, we sorted shapes into two groups: rectangles and squares. To finish the week, we went on a shape hunt around the classroom to see if we could spot rectangles and squares in our everyday environment. The children were very enthusiastic and did a great job identifying shapes around them!
