Salt Dough and the Stone Age – Class 5 Gets Creative!

This week, Class 5 has been busy exploring a fantastic blend of history, science and design technology through our STEM learning project.

We began by travelling back in time to the Stone Age, learning how early humans created jewellery using natural materials. Class 5 then had a go at making their own! They mixed salt, flour and water to create salt dough before shaping this into Stone Age–style beads, teeth and other decorative pieces. Once dry, the children painted and assembled their creations into their very own prehistoric jewellery.

Alongside our DT work, we linked this activity to our science topic: identifying different types of human teeth. After learning about incisors, canines and molars, Class 5 applied this knowledge to inspire some of their jewellery designs.

This hands-on project allowed Class 5 to combine scientific understanding with creativity, while developing their design, shaping and problem-solving skills.

We were incredibly impressed with the imagination, teamwork and enthusiasm Class 5 showed throughout the project. Well done, everyone!
