Today we have used our whole class guided reading session to learn more about the importance of the harvest festival which is coming up shortly.

We looked at a variety of texts for this. These include: poems, prayers and songs.

Children explained the importance of reading a prayer “solemnly and slowly” to ensure we are using that time to show thanks properly.

Children explained and practiced that song lyrics often have rhyming couplets that have to be read with a certain type of expression.

Poetry often has a specific amount of syllables which must be read deliberately to be effective for the reader.
