Children in Y4 have been using their place value knowledge to add up to two 4 digit numbers together with at least one exchange in class. To help continue this learning we have completed a Teach Active activity.
The aim of the game was for children to work in pairs to calculate questions with numbers up to 4 digits using the formal written methods of columnar addition. The children had to first listen to a command of how they could get a question from one of the baskets this was by one of three ways: hopping, jumping or by going over hurdles. The winner was the pair with the most questions answered correctly using the correct method once all the baskets were empty.
Resilience and team working skills were tested throughout and everyone really enjoyed learning maths in a different way from just being at a desk.
Well done Y4!
