Parent and carers in year 5 were invited into school for another of our ‘multiply’ maths sessions, yesterday morning. During this session, parents and carers developed their strategies for numeracy, and then took the role as the ‘maths expert’ as the children joined us for the other part of the session. During this session, we had an open-discussion about our previous experiences of maths from the past. We also played maths games with the children and looked at a range of ways to deepen our learning, thinking and problem solving in mathematics.
We discussed and practised using different learning different strategies, and talked about how they can help us to be more confident in maths through improving the ability to understand and use maths in daily life, home and work. Whether that be improving household finances, helping our own children with their home learning from school, or making more sense of the stats and facts in the media, improving numeracy skills to support learning is key in our every day life.
Keep an eye out for the next sessions available in the summer term…
