Making Blackberry Jam at Bushcraft Club

This week in Bushcraft Club, we have been busy making blackberry jam. We first explored the school grounds and identified key features of the blackberry bramble bush before heading indoors to make our jam.

After crushing up the blackberries and adding sugar, we added lemon juice that is rich in pectin; a natural preservative before boiling and allowing to set.

Children then buttered their own bread and toast before enjoying a taste of their homemade blackberry jam.
