Learning Whole Class Violin in Year 5

As part of our cultural and creative offer at Roughwood Primary School, we are privileged to offer every child in our school the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument – funded by the school.

As part of our Willow Tree values, we believe all children can achieve excellence. We firmly believe that music develops concentration skills and no matter what type of instrument you’re learning to play, requires focus and use of interpersonal skills, including oracy – verbal, and also non-verbal communication.

This week, the children in Year 5 have learnt about the maintenance of their new instrument, and begun to develop their musical listening skills, as well as empathy and teamwork to learning new songs and rhythms.

The children have learnt some body percussion rhythms and how to hold their instrument in their very first lesson.
