Introduction to mass through biscuits in Y3S

This week, Y3 are covering mass and have learnt that means the weight of an object. To introduce this new topic, we looked at comparing heavier and lighter objects aswell as discussing if we would measure them in kg or grams and why.

As a carousel, Miss Sare set children individual tasks, first one was to compare different amounts of biscuits. Children were to predict the outcome and many children were shocked to discover that just because a biscuit is bigger it does not necessarily mean it will have a heavier mass.

We are looking forward to progressing into measuring and interpreting mass using more specific scales such as weighing scales!
