Layers of Soil investigation

As part of our science learning about rocks and soils, we wanted to investigate what happens to soil if it is left in water for a longer period of time. We also wanted to see just what soil is made up of and if we could find this out.

We wanted to know if there were any difference between soil collected from different places. We went around school to different locations and then collected 3 different soil samples. After that, we added an equal amount of water to our samples as this was one of our non-variables and left it in an undisturbed place.

One of our children thinks that the soil collected from our woodland area will be different to that collected from our outdoor space near the pond due to it being a darker more moist environment. We will find out tomorrow.
