Betty Wilson explains why Sheffield was so important in the war.
Yesterday, the pupils in Year 6 were evacuated from school to visit Kelham Island Museum where they took part in a special “Children of World War 2” day. Everyone (including staff) was dressed up in clothes reminiscent of the time and had a great day finding out what life was like for people in Sheffield during the war. There was a drill session, time in an Anderson shelter, a bit of historical enquiry and the chance to see the power of the mighty River Don Engine at work. All in all, a fabulous day was had by everyone with some real, first-hand learning taking place.
